The differences between tournaments and cash table play

It may be hard for regular cash table players to make the transition to tournament play. The challenge may come as the skills used to play at a table are completely different to that of a tournament. If you normally play at a table you will need to come up with a new strategy and mindset and forget how to play at a table as what is positive at a table can be negative in a tournament. If your looking for a challenge, changing from table to tournament play or vice versa may up your skills and your confidence when playing either game.

The rules and the play etiquette will be different between cash table an tournament play so when playing between both you will need to remember both sets of rules. One big difference between the two is that fact that no money will be exchanged in tournament poker until the end. You will accumulate chips in a tournament and you will only win money when you hit a certain level. The chips have no monetary value so makes a big difference from a cash table as the main aim is to accumulate cash as you go along. The further you go on in a tournament the more money you will walk away with.

If you want to improve your game at both cash tables and tournaments the aim will be to play tight and aggressive. It is believed that aggressive players win the most money at poker. You will see less aggressive players at cash tables which may come as a shock.
